Michelle Daher

Title: Codimension 2 smoothing

Abstract: In this talk, we give an overview of smoothing codimension 2 embeddings of manifolds. We discuss recent results on smoothing codimension 2 embeddings of manifolds of dimensions 3 and 4 which is a joint work with Mark Powell.

Title: Periodicity in algebraic K-theory

Abstract:

I will begin my talk by giving a quick background on ring spectra and algebraic K-theory. After this, I will discuss several interesting periodicity results for algebraic K-theory and our generalizations of these periodicity results.    

Markus Upmeier

Title: Differential operators on manifolds with boundary and determinant line bundles

Abstract:

I will explain a new approach to real index theory for manifolds with boundary, extending Atiyah-Patodi-Singer boundary conditions. The main result interprets these indices in terms of the determinant line bundle of the induced differential operator over the boundary and proves a gluing property. Based on arXiv:2312.06818.
